“A remarkable and historical meeting of minds.” —Matthieu Ricard

“A wonderful book that does what philosophy and religious teachings are supposed to do: challenge us to think better, to live better, and to be better.” —Ryan Holiday

In 'The Buddhist and the Ethicist', philosopher Peter Singer and Buddhist monastic Shih Chao-Hwei have open and honest conversations about topics such as animal welfare, gender equality, the death penalty, sex, abortion, euthanasia, and more. This thought- provoking exchange of ideas sheds light on the intersection of moral philosophy and Eastern religion and offers a variety of perspectives on building a better world.

Peter Singer, the “father of the modern animal welfare movement,” was named one of the most influential people in the world by Time magazine and has been called the most influential living philosopher. Singer is the author of many books, most notably the pioneering book Animal Liberation (1975). Singer is founder of The Life You Can Save nonprofit, professor of bioethics at Princeton University, and former Laureate Professor at the University of Melbourne.
