Santa Claus World Championship puts Father Christmas to the test in Switzerland.

The "Auer Klause" team were crowned World Champion Santas for the third year in a row on Saturday at the end of the Santa Claus World Championships held in Samnaun, in the Engadin valley in south-east Switzerland on the border with Italy and Austria.

Santas from Switzerland, Germany, Italy, and Austria engaged all day and into the evening in tasks requiring skill, knowledge, creativity and humour to fight for the title.

The participants demonstrated their competence - or tried to - in categories such as the Santa Parade, Santa's Journey, Santa's Snow Sculpture and Santa's Sledge Race.

A serious, professional performance is certainly an important part of the contest but the modern Santa Claus is asked to do more than compete in ten disciplines.

In addition to the most important task of delivering presents, he, or she, must climb fireplaces, ride his sleigh and the Zipfybob (motor ski) perfectly, decorate gingerbread, paint pictures and be familiar with world geography.

Some 17 teams of four took part in front of about one thousand spectators.
In the end, the title went once again to "Auer Klause" with "Hugo plus 4" finishing second.
