Merlin Trials are puzzle challenges scattered throughout the game. The purpose of these Trials (other than a fun little brain activity every once in a while) is to unlock gear inventory slots, so you won't have to quick-sell every 5 seconds.
You must unlock the Quest "The Trials of Merlin" which is given by Natsai Onai in Lower Hogsfield, before you can start completing the Merlin Trials.
Each Merlin Trial will require 1 Mallowsweet Leaves before the challenge can begin. They are not timed, but if you don't complete it in one sitting, it will reset when you log back in.
