Dozens of Portland Public Schools (PPS) students, board members, and Superintendent Kimberlee Armstrong spent the day at the Oregon State Capitol, urging lawmakers to increase education funding.

The visit, part of Education Advocacy Day, focused on one central message: districts say current funding levels are not keeping pace with rising costs, staffing pressures, and student needs.

“Right now, we really need to address the deficits that are happening across the state,” said Armstrong.

Armstrong is calling on lawmakers to consider tapping the state’s Education Stability Fund to address budget shortfalls.

The fund acts as Oregon’s education “rainy day” reserve, built up during stronger economic years to help schools avoid deep cuts during financial downturns.
