The death sentence for Nimisha Priya, an Indian nurse from Kerala convicted for murder in Yemen, has been revoked. According to the office of Indian Grand Mufti Kanthapuram AP Abubakar, a high-level meeting in Sanaa decided to completely cancel the previously suspended sentence. Nimisha Priya was convicted in 2018 for the murder of her sponsor and her case was upheld by Yemen's Supreme Judicial Council. The Government of India, along with other parties, was involved in efforts to secure her release. A significant challenge in the case was the victim's family's refusal to accept blood money. The decision overturns the death penalty that was scheduled to be carried out after July 16th, marking a significant development in the long-standing case.
