Mostly known today for their 1971 heavy psychedelic progressive rock album, "Satori" which is even labeled by some as being proto-doom metal, Flower Travelling Band started with Yuya Uchida's desire to bring heavier psychedelic rock to Japan.

The first lineup was called Yuya Uchida & The Flowers but he soon reformed the band with Hideki Ishima, Akira "Joe" Yamanaka, and Jun Kozuki (Kobayashi) while maintaining drummer Joji "George" Wada.

The classic lineup released 4 studio albums together between 1970 and 1973 then regrouped for another album in 2008 with keyboardist Nobuhiko Shinohara, who had begun playing with the group before beginning their long hiatus.
