D&I Railroad (DAIR): Dakota & Iowa EMDs in Siouxland

In this video, we'll cover the D&I Railroad, also known as the Dakota & Iowa Railroad (DAIR), between Dell Rapids, South Dakota and Sioux City, Iowa. We feature scenes captured over 21 years, between 1996 and 2017. A great variety of motive power is seen in operation, including EMD models SD39, GP50, GP9, SD40-2, GP39-2, and GP20. This railroad is owned by L.G. Everist, with the main traffic handled being rock and gravel out of the quarry at Dell Rapids. The DAIR doesn't turn away business from other sources, as ethanol, DDG, cement, and other commodities also travel these former Milwaukee Road rails. Locations visited include Dell Rapids, Baltic, Renner, Sioux Falls, Harrisburg, Canton, Beloit, Fairview, Hudson, Hawarden, Chatsworth, Westfield, Elk Point, and Jefferson, with coverage of D&I trains on DAIR, BNSF, and South Dakota state-owned trackage.
