The first Raw of the New Year will feature an appearance from Goldberg in Tampa and more.
Here are the results and analysis from every match and segment.

Even Stephanie Can't Save Terrible Opening Sequence

Stephanie McMahon is very rarely involved in a poor segment. One exception took place on the
opening of this week's Raw. It began with Mick Foley, his new haircut and a pretty useless
spiel about the New Year. Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho would come to the ring about five minutes
into Foley's flawed opening.These two need some life pumped into their schtick.
These two need some life pumped into their schtick.They go in on all of their rivals, but it's not
entertaining. Stephanie comes to the ring and breaks up the bickering. She announces two matches:
Roman Reigns will defend the U.S. title against Jericho.
If he is counted out or disqualified, he'll lose the title.
Also, Owens will get his first run as a talk show host. The first guest of the Kevin Owens Show
will be Goldberg.Owens will also face Seth Rollins, and the loser is banned from ringside in the U.S.
title match. I'm not hyped.

The Wackness Continues

Owens will be banned from ringside in the U.S. title match. He got himself disqualified by
hitting Rollins with the ring bell. Their match wasn't very memorable up to that point.
It was booked like a match destined for an anticlimactic ending.
If this helps to bring back the tension between Owens and Jericho, then it makes sense. If not, I'm still not hyped.

Karl Anderson def. Cesaro

The Gallows and Anderson vs. Sheamus and Cesaro feud is underway. Hold the applause (I'm kidding).
Sheamus was on commentary as Karl Anderson took on Cesaro in a singles match. Cesaro worked his
normal solid match and Anderson was solid as well, but the match lacked pizazz. Also,
Sheamus never found his rhythm on commentary.Ultimately, Luke Gallows would get involved
in the match and that drew Sheamus from behind the announcer's table. He attempted to even the odds,
but Anderson still got the pinfall win after a scramble.That was a nice neckbreaker.

Strowman Destroys Sami Zayn

OK, this is much better.
Braun Strowman defeated Sami Zayn in a Last Man Standing Match, but the underdog made it look good:
Despite his valiant and well-booked effort, Strowman's power was just too much for Zayn to overcome.
Strowman nailed Zayn with a series of running powerslams outside the ring, and that led to the 10 count.
A stretcher was brought out for Zayn, but Strowman came back to throw him off the apparatus.
Strowman's monster heel status has been boosted, and that's a great thing.

Titus O'Neill Shines In Segment With The New Day

I kind of hate that all of the African-American Superstars wind up facing each other in feuds,
but I cannot lie, Titus in a program with The New Day was long overdue.
Titus killed it in his mic session with The New Day. It's the best he's been since the early
days of the Primetime Players. He delivered funny and timely mic work and his physical actions were on point.
He was auditioning to become the fourth member of The New Day, but Xavier Woods objected. The two got into a back and forth and it led to a match.

The match wasn't terrible, but it was kind of lame to see Titus O'Neill lose on a rollup after
delivering such a strong promo.Hopefully, Titus' issues with The New Day continue.

Just Bayley

Stephanie McMahon tells Bayley she's nothing special, she's just Bayley. I agree, but this is part
of the subliminal push they're giving her.Bayley has a No. 1 contender's match against Nia Jax.

Noam Dar Continues to Stalk Alicia Fox

The Noam Dar vs. Cedric Alexander feud has some potential as it pertains to in-ring action,
but this whole thing about the former stalking Alicia Fox is bland.We've seen this angle several times, and neither Dar or
Alexander's characters have been developed enough for us to care.

Drew Gulak def. Cedric Alexander

As Gulak stood in the ring before the match, I wondered to myself: "has Gulak ever won a match in the WWE?"
After he pulled out the roll-up pin victory with help from his tag-team partner Tony Nese, I got my answer.
Gulak chanted: "I won! I won!" as he ran up the ramp.Apparently, even he was shocked.

Y2J knows how to tell a story in a match. That quality coupled with Reigns' strength and athleticism
made this an above-average match. Jericho attempted to frame Reigns for an illegal strike with the
championship belt.Reigns would have lost his title had the referee fell for Jericho's plot.
