Prasat Bayon Facts:
Heart of Angkor Thom: Bayon is located right in the center of Angkor Thom, the last capital city of the Khmer Empire.
**Built by Jayavarman VII: This stunning Buddhist temple was constructed in the late 12th or early 13th century under the reign of King Jayavarman VII.
The Smiling Faces: Its most iconic feature is the multitude of serene, smiling stone faces carved into the many towers. There are over 200 of these faces! Many believe they depict Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of compassion, and possibly even the king himself.
