The time has come to crown a new Scorpion King at Universal Pictures. Yes, you heard me correctly. I did say, Scorpion King, the movie that will haunt Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson for the rest of his life. Apparently, he’s determined to set this film back on the right track and fix the errors of his past.

You know this character from one infamous moment in The Mummy Returns. Suppose you managed to brave past that into the real Scorpion King movie, then congrats. In that case, you also remember that train wreck that audiences generally avoided. The fact is this movie sucked, and I feel like we’ve all given up hope before production even starts.

What can this studio do to make the remake any better? Well, for starters, hiring the scriptwriter for Straight Outta Compton and leaving Hiram Garcia in charge was a great first move. Personally, I love that the film is being rebooted. I’d rather see Hollywood take failed projects and try again then rehash successful films.

The Mummy remake is the potential fail we could be looking at here. That movie is so forgettable that it’s almost not worth mentioning. At a minimum, the Scorpion King remake resembles the fun in Hobbs and Shaw. That’s a solid blockbuster movie right there. We want more Kong Skull Island and less Hercules if it can be avoided.

Heck, in a grand world, this film looks like Sicario but feels like a Peter Jackson epic. Yeah, it’ll take a lot to get there, but, hey, that’s why you’re tuning in. To see how we get to that moment.
