Grief is the cost of love. The experience of loss often makes us hesitant to love, as none of us enjoys the pain that comes with it. Sorrow is a complex emotion, a blend of many feelings that can sometimes feel overwhelming. However, it is important to remember that these struggles are not unique to you, they are a part of the shared human experience.

In this episode, we hear from Martin Luther King's nephew as he discusses what Martin Luther King did right before his death, almost as if he knew his time was limited. We also witness a mother's heart-wrenching loss of her children, grandchild, and husband in a tragic car accident. We empathize with a woman coping with the sudden and devastating suicide of her husband. Another woman whose husband was healthy one minute and diagnosed with stage four cancer the next. Additionally, we learn about a mother's challenging decision regarding her child's feeding tube. The emotional turmoil a woman faced before undergoing an organ transplant and the loss of the young man she received her kidney from.

These stories, although they are happening to strangers, remind us that loss and grief can touch anyone at any time. It is difficult to face the cost of love when it becomes due, and we often find ourselves fearing love because we know that we will eventually have to pay that price. We must have faith that there is something greater at play beyond our human experience of suffering from loss. Somehow, on some level, it all finds a way to be reconciled and to make sense. Without a belief that there is a reason behind our experiences, we would have little motivation to love at all.
