THE FEARED FRENCH TANK | Panzer III F vs Char B1 Bis Simulation | 50mm Pzgr.40 APCR

Описание к видео THE FEARED FRENCH TANK | Panzer III F vs Char B1 Bis Simulation | 50mm Pzgr.40 APCR

The French Char B1 Bis was one of the most well armed and armoured tanks during the WWII Battle of France, with the simulation showing it facing APCR ammunition from the German 50mm KwK 38 cannon.

Most Panzer III models of the time were fitted with the 37mm KwK 36, with some F models being upgraded to the short-barrelled 50mm L/42 cannon. The Pzgr.40 Armour-Piercing Composite-Rigid (APCR) projectile and its variants were the most effective rounds for this gun, featuring a high muzzle velocity and a dense tungsten carbide core. Despite this, it can be seen why the 50mm KwK 38 L/42 was deemed insufficient against heavier armour. Later Panzer IIIs were upgraded to the 50mm KwK 39 L/60, offering a greater muzzle velocity.

The hardness of the B1 Bis armour could not be found, so medium hardness 250BHN RHA was used. The only reference image that could be found shows slight petaling around penetration holes, which is in-line with medium hardness armour: https://external-preview.redd.it/5Dsh...
