My Funny Valentine - Jim Shepherd

Hard to believe it's a year since the wonderful Jim Shepherd left us. I thought people might like to hear a couple of lovely recordings where Jim was playing flugel horn. Despite his incredible dexterity as the world's best cornet player it has always been his slow melody recordings that I love the most, especially on flugel when he had such a gorgeous dark tone and the jazziest slow vib.

This popular jazz standard 'My Funny Valentine' is composed by Richard Rogers, with the original lyrics by Lorenz Hart. This is one of the last solos Jim ever recorded, and it shows an incredible musician still in his musical prime right to the end.
