Dr. Chidi Christian Obijiaku is a Nigerian music theorist, composer, conductor, and scholar based in South Africa. He is exploring African urban soundscapes as creative and aesthetic resources for modern African art music composition in the twenty-first century. His works feature an eclectic approach, drawing on Igbo traditional music, Nigerian Hip-Hop, Highlife, and R&B. In addition to his outstanding academic publications in reputable journals in South Africa and internationally, Dr. Obijiaku’s compositions and orchestral works have been performed in South Africa, Nigeria, Europe, and the United States of America.

In this presentation, Dr. Obijiaku explores Nigerian urban cultures as compositional resources. He invites Nigerian composers to reflect on urban life and cultures as creative sources for modern African art music composition in the twenty-first century.

We particularly invite undergraduates, graduate students and early/mid-career music scholars and professionals in Nigeria to the Organ House Concert and Seminar Series. The Series serves as a space of scholarly empowerment while also providing relevant resources for advancing music studies, culture, performance, creativity, and scholarship in Nigeria and Africa.
