Installing custom indicator mirror caps

Описание к видео Installing custom indicator mirror caps

In today’s video, I’m fitting some indicator mirror caps, courtesy of Tony Murton from Little Buggers Club. According to Tony, #projectc1 is unique at the time of writing because no other sets exist, these are a prototype pair. They are a modified pair of OEM spec mirror caps that have had a dynamic LED strip installed.

In order to install these, the existing mirror housings need some major surgery. Quite a lot of the existing housing needs to be trimmed away (using a tool of your choice, I opted for an oscillating multi tool) in order to make space for the LED strip. The mirror caps come with their own wiring, but only as far as the mirror cap. I chose to run some twin core cable out of the mirror housing, through the door via a 10mm hole I drilled (protected using some conduit), down the door, through the rubber boot and into the wheel arch. I removed the wheel arch liner and the wheel to gain access to the wiring loom, specifically that of the side repeater. I cut into this loom and wired in the twin core cable (again, protected using conduit) together using solder sleeves (or inline, low profile, environmentally sealed splices, if you prefer). I then put all the wiring back into its clip holders and re-installed the side repeater. This has now gotten me to the point where I have 12v up to the indicator caps. I trimmed the insulation to expose the conductor and attached them into the connector that was provided with the mirror cap and clipped them together. Before installing the mirror cap, I turned the indicators on to see if they’re working and they worked just fine. I installed the indicator cap and everything looks almost like it was factory installed.

If you want to get hold of some of these mirror caps yourself, head on over to the Little Buggers Club on Facebook and ask for Tony Murton. Send him the link to this video, he’ll know what you’re after!
