In 1971, Kathmandu was still an almost medieval city with no cars and few visitors. In the mountains, the only people we met were local hill people returning from Kathmandu to their villages.

(In the early 1970s I backpacked through Thailand, Burma, Nepal, northern India and Afghanistan with a small 8mm film camera. Since I could only carry a limited amount of film stock, the films in this series are only about 15 minutes long but still, I hope, manage to give a sense of the richness of the local culture and landscape.)
