Rochana Felde: Welcome everybody to The Flower Essence podcast. Today, I am so thrilled and excited to introduce a guest to you, Nicholas Pearson, and he is an author of several books on crystals and an upcoming book on flower essences. We want to talk today about gem elixirs and gem essences. And this is just very exciting to me to bring Nicholas on with Kathleen and to walk through some of the ideas presented in his book Crystal Basics, which I am a big fan of, and very excited to introduce you to it.
So Nicholas has been immersed in all aspects of the mineral kingdom for more than 20 years. He began teaching crystal workshops in high school, later studying Mineral Science at Stetson University while pursuing a degree in music. Then, he worked for several years at the Gillespie Museum, home to the largest mineral collection in the southern United States. He's also a certified Reiki teacher and practitioner. He has classes on crystals, Reiki, and Flower Essences. And his six books include Crystal Basics, Crystals for Karmic Healing, and the forthcoming Flower Essences from the Witch's Garden. So he lives in Orlando, Florida and was kind enough to join us on the podcast today. Welcome.
Nicholas Pearson: [00:02:10] Thank you so much for having me. I'm really looking forward to today's episode.
Rochana Felde: [00:02:14] Yeah, so are we. So maybe we can just dive in a little bit here. And the thing that I wanted to mention about this book Crystal Basics is it's something that I might not have picked up in the bookstore initially because I've been studying crystals and working with them since the '80s, I guess you could say. But when I came across this book, what really struck me and I learned so much from was primarily the first half of it that really delves into decoding, how to decode these crystals and what the different-- the structural systems and the composition and all of the things that go into what is a mineral or what is a crystal and how that becomes the energy of the crystal. And that was just-- there were so many aha moments in there when I read that. So I'm so appreciative that you were able to put that together in a way that made so much sense for my brain. And I use, as flower essence practitioners do, gem essences from other makers, and then I make some of my own. And I had done my own attunements with them, but I never really had that connection between the science and the metaphysical, the way that you put it together. So thank you for that.
Nicholas Pearson: [00:04:22] Well, thank you. That is the thing that I love most about rocks is seeing that marriage of science and spirituality and finding that intersection where each one kind of informs the other. So long ago I wish there had been a book that did that well and did it in-depth and in a way that was accessible no matter your skill level or science background or lack thereof. So not finding one, I wrote it myself.
Kathleen Aspenns: [00:04:46] That's what you have to do sometimes is you want to read a book and then, you end up having to develop it yourself. I love that you did that, and I too was really impressed reading your book. And the thing that I was able to pull because I don't know as much about crystals as Rochana, but I love them and I use the gem essences in my practice as well. But I loved when you brought in the crystal structure in the formation of the different types of crystals, where it spoke to me, with my knowledge of plant taxonomy, and it bridged how crystal taxonomy, how these, essentially, families develop with these different geometric types of internal formations. I thought that was really compelling and interesting. There are people who are researching geometry of flowers. And so it's sort of like, okay, I can see how these principles, these underlying principles that create the formations both in the plant and the mineral kingdom, you bridged that for me.
