Sixgill Sharks are an extremely rare species of shark that is rarely ever seen or caught by even the most experienced anglers. In this video, we head out to Avalon located on Santa Catalina Island off the coast of Southern California to target this species of shark via land based shark fishing. Months of planning went into this trip. I am joined by my very good friends Chris, Serena & Tyler. They are all a part of Exodus Sport Fishing, which is a charter service based out of Long Beach, Southern California. Serena made it her mission to run her own baits and hook up into one of these beautiful creatures on her own and she did just that. These sharks are also known as Bluntnose Sixgill Sharks and Cow Sharks. It is the largest hexanchoid shark on this planet, growing up to 20 feet in length. Bluntnose Sixgill Sharks are found in tropical and temperate waters. Santa Catalina Island happens to support a perfect environment for these sharks to thrive. This shark was caught and released with the integrity of the shark in mind. The shark was not harmed in this video and was released safely back into the ocean with all the fishing tackle removed from it mouth. Our group is trained in the proper release of these beautiful species.
