“ISLAMIC ARCHITECTURE: TRADITION AND MODERNISM”
Illustrated presentation by Nicholas Stone, (pre-recorded with Persian sub-titles), delivered July 8th, 2023, in lecture series on “Spirituality and Modern Arts and Science”, at Khaneh Hekmat, Isfahan, Iran.

Nicholas Stone studied architecture and early in his career worked with the Egyptian architect, Abdel Wahed El-Wakil on projects reviving traditional Islamic architecture — notably Al-Qiblatain Mosque in Medina. Thereafter, he worked on domes for the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, and in Malaysia, together with his wife, Nazanin Sheikhi, he undertook projects, including the domes of the Federal Territory Mosque in Kuala Lumpur; the domes and main atrium of the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya; the domes, mihrab, minbar and muqarnas for Al-Bukhary Mosque in Alor Setar; as well as the design and fabrication of a perforated brass mosque lamp, which subsequently led to his authoring the book: “Symbol of Divine Light - The Lamp in Islamic Culture and Other Traditions”. He currently resides in Chicago.
