Floating village at Kampong Khleang | CAMBODIA 2019

Off the beaten path, take a boat get across the street (instead of using your feet). In the most remote floating village from Siem Reap, you’ll find houses on wooden stilts...rising above the water. Buying a boat ticket contributes money to the community, especially hospitals where women give birth. Children as young as a few years old are found boating alone, in a place where they learn to navigate the water early. In a separate part of the area are floating houses, inhabited by ethnic Vietnamese. People live here because they have no land. Take a boat through the flooded mangrove forest, where the Cambodian way of life is simple. And yet, peaceful. Here, I fell in love with the country. And I learned that when people have no money, they find other ways of being happy.
