🇪🇸 A orillas del mar Cantábrico, Gijón (Xixón en asturiano) nos muestra una atractiva combinación de sabor marinero, patrimonio monumental y un urbanismo moderno al borde de la playa. Su puerto deportivo nos habla de una historia fuertemente ligada al mar. Su casco histórico ha sido declarado Bien de Interés Cultural.
Importantes construcciones tienen su origen en el pasado de la ciudad como asentamiento romano, en su desarrollo a partir del siglo XVI cuando los Reyes Católicos deciden instalar aquí un puerto y en el impulso dado a estas tierras en tiempos de la Ilustración, principalmente gracias a Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos.
Si eres amante de la playa, en Gijón/Xixón estás en un auténtico paraíso. No en vano es una de las ciudades más famosas de España por sus arenales, destacando por su solera el de San Lorenzo, en pleno corazón costero de la ciudad, y que tiene su prolongación rocosa en las playas de Los Mayanes y el Cervigón. Pero también resultan muy atractivas las de Poniente y el de El Arbeyal.

🇬🇧 On the shores of the Cantabrian Sea, Gijón (Xixón in the Asturian language) offers an attractive combination of maritime tradition, monumental heritage and modern urban planning right on the seashore. Its marina is a testament to its close links with the sea throughout its history. Its historic center has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.
Its various major constructions date from the city's past as a Roman settlement, from its development in the 16th century when the Catholic monarchs decided to install a port here, and from the boom enjoyed by the area at the time of the Enlightenment, primarily thanks to Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos.
If you're a beach lover, in Gijón/Xixón, you're in a true paradise. It's no wonder it's one of the most famous cities in Spain for its beaches, with San Lorenzo beach being particularly renowned. Situated right in the coastal heart of the city, it extends into rocky shores with Los Mayanes and Cervigón beaches. Additionally, the Poniente and El Arbeyal beaches are also very appealing.
