“The world of Latin", says Cornell Latinist Daniel Gallagher, "has needed Father Schrader’s book for a long time. There is simply nothing like it. I have been introducing students of classical Latin to scholastic Latin for years, and the absence of a reliable, succinct manual on scholastic style has been terribly frustrating. Until now.”

Father Dylan Schrader is a priest of the Diocese of Jefferson City, Missouri, ordained in 2010. He holds a Ph.D. in systematic theology from the Catholic University of America. He is the translator of several theological works, including by St. Thomas Aquinas and other Scholastic authors. He has written on theology, liturgy, and the Latin language.

Among his forthcoming publications, he has an article on the promotion of Latin, set to appear in the Adoremus Bulletin, and a book entitled "A Thomistic Christocentrism: Recovering the Carmelites of Salamanca on the Logic of the Incarnation," due to appear from Catholic University Press in 2021.

The Shortcut to Scholastic Latin was first published in 2019 with the Paideia Institute Press. It is really the first book of its kind: a concise and effective introduction, in English, to the world of scholastic Latin — primarily aimed at readers who are already familiar with classical Latin, or at least with Latin grammar, but have never set out to read scholastic texts before, or are now beginning to do so.
