This feeding technique is called fish kicking. Fish are not as afraid of a dolphins tail as its head, and the dolphin uses that to its advantage. Usually, the fish is stunned or killed by the impact & the dolphin can grab it easily. It may look like play, but it's a legit hunting technique that is very effective & requires a lot less energy that chasing a fish until it's caught.

You won't find footage of fish kicking (aka fish whacking) on National Geographic, BBC Earth, or Animal Planet, although BBC Earth & Nat Geo appear to be working on getting footage of it. I say this because I've had a few production companies working on projects for Nat Geo & BBC reach out to me for more information about this technique. They want to send a big budget film crew out but want to know where to go and when to go there.
You saw it here first ! And although there may be a few videos showing fish kicking on youtube or elsewhere, there aren't ANY that show the actual "kick", the moment the dolphin's tail makes contact with the fish. Feel free to prove me wrong with a link :-)

This video was taken in St Petersburg, Florida. Fish kicking is the most common hunting technique used by dolphins in this area. The technique is used in other places as well. I have even confirmed that bottlenose dolphins in Australia also kick fish to stun them.
