Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe is a very fascinating car with a rich history and a stunning design. Here are some facts about it:
It is named after its creator and chief engineer, Rudolf Uhlenhaut, who was also responsible for the 300 SLR racer and the 300 SL Gullwing road car.
It is based on the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR (W 196 S), which was a two-seat sports racing car that took part in the 1955 World Sportscar Championship and dominated the competition until a catastrophic crash and fire at Le Mans ended its participation prematurely.
The 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé is one of just two prototypes built at the time, and it is considered to be one of the finest examples of automotive engineering ever created.
It has a 3-litre straight-eight engine with direct fuel injection that produces 302 PS (222 kW) of power and can reach speeds of up to 290 km/h (180 mph).
It has a monocoque chassis made of lightweight magnesium alloy, a transaxle gearbox, and an inboard brake system to reduce unsprung mass.
It has a coupé body style with gull-wing doors, a long bonnet, and a short tail. It has a silver paintwork with red leather interior and a wooden steering wheel.
It was never raced or sold to the public, but was used by Uhlenhaut as his personal car. He often drove it on public roads and highways, causing astonishment and admiration among other drivers.
