U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman Christopher “Bobby” Gnem, 22, a 2016 graduate of Stockton’s Lincoln High School, was laid to rest Sunday with full military honors. Gnem was serving as a medic to a group of Marines during a training mission aboard a Marine landing craft that sank July 30 in hundreds of feet of water off the Southern California coast. The remains of Gnem and the seven others were recovered more than a week later on Aug. 7 following underwater salvage operations, and their families were notified that day. On Sunday, Gnem’s casket and family were accompanied by about 30 motorcycles with the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association from Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi to the Stockton riverside home of Joe Faso – across the San Joaquin River from the Navy’s former communications and supply depot on Rough and Ready Island.
