1. Computer Case (Chassis/Tower)
Description: The outer box or frame that houses all of the internal components. It comes in various sizes (form factors like Mid-Tower or Mini-ITX).
Function:
Protection: Provides mechanical support and protects the delicate internal parts (like the motherboard and CPU) from dust and physical damage.
Cooling: Directs the flow of air, often using built-in fans, to cool down components that generate heat.
2. Power Supply Unit (PSU)
Description: A component, usually located at the top or bottom rear of the case, that has many cables coming out of it.
Function:
Conversion: Converts the high-voltage Alternating Current (AC) electricity from your wall outlet into the low-voltage Direct Current (DC) that all computer components (motherboard, CPU, drives, etc.) can safely use.
Distribution: Distributes the correct voltage and current to every part of the computer through its various connectors.
3. RAM (Random Access Memory)
Description: Sticks of memory that plug into slots on the motherboard. It is a form of volatile memory, meaning data is lost when the power is turned off.
Function:
Temporary Workspace: Acts as the computer's super-fast, short-term workspace or scratchpad. It temporarily stores the data and instructions for all the programs and tasks you are currently using (e.g., your open web browser, document, or game).
Speed: Allows the Central Processing Unit (CPU) to quickly access the information it needs, which is why having more RAM helps with multitasking and overall system responsiveness.
4. HDD (Hard Disk Drive)
Description: A traditional storage device that uses spinning magnetic platters (disks) and a mechanical arm with a read/write head to store and retrieve data. It is a form of non-volatile memory.
Function:
Long-Term Storage: Permanently stores all your files, documents, operating system, and installed programs. The data remains even when the computer is turned off.
Pros & Cons: Typically cheaper and available in larger capacities (Terabytes) but is slower and more prone to mechanical failure than an SSD.
5. SSD (Solid State Drive)
Description: A modern storage device that uses integrated circuits and flash memory chips to store data electronically. It has no moving parts and is also a form of non-volatile memory.
Function:
Fast Storage: Performs the same function as an HDD (long-term storage) but accesses data significantly faster.
Pros & Cons: Offers much faster boot times, quicker application loading, and better system responsiveness.
