One year ago, I was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Since then, I’ve often been asked: What’s happened? What’s changed? What’s new?

This past Friday, I had the chance to participate in proxy baptisms for some of my direct ancestors—including a grandfather and one name that stood out: an unknown grand-uncle who shared both my first and last name. Through the FamilySearch Library, I discovered he was the son of my great-grandfather—the same great-grandfather who had joined the Church. This grand-uncle died when he was 8.

It was a simple moment, but a meaningful one—to feel connected across generations in a way I hadn’t before.

This morning, I took a prayer walk to reflect on the past year - crossing over the same bridge as I took the first steps going from the Protestant label to Latter-day Saint.

The best way I could summarize things was Slow. Steady. Growth. Nothing flashy. Just taking time to deepen and strengthen my spiritual roots. Whereas before I felt my relationship with Christ relied on Bible-Bible-Bible, now I find my roots REACHING for the Bible, the Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants, prophets, temples, church members, and various other resources to deepen that nourishment.

I've still been attending other churches as part of my channel, but it's been very strategic in order to regularly attend sacrament meeting. My attendance is often three out of every four Sundays, and if possible when traveling to document other churches, I'll visit the nearest ward.

I've found that there's been a merging of sorts between my "Protestant Brain" vs. new "LDS Lens." Martin Luther's prayer in a thunderstorm when he vowed to become a monk (thus setting the course for the Protestant Reformation) feels very similar to Joseph Smith's prayer during the First Vision. During one talk I heard in Paducah, a member said she didn't feel convert was the right word, rather she had JOINED the Church. That has stuck with me.
