Bonsaify | Sekka Hinoki Pruning and Propagation

Описание к видео Bonsaify | Sekka Hinoki Pruning and Propagation

It's time for Eric to revisit a group of Sekka Hinoki Cypress he propagated by cutting and has been growing in the greenhouse, that are now in their third growing season. Follow along as he continues to develop his skills with this popular species native to Japan, using advice he received from Daisaku Nomoto (a bonsai professional living in Japan).

00:00:30 This group of Sekka Hinoki look slightly different than typical; Eric believes it's because they've been growing in the greenhouse. He prefers this look when comparing to those that have been grown in the field in full sun.

00:01:51 First tree has a bunch of big shoots.

00:02:58 Following advice Daisaku gave him in November 2022, Eric makes big cuts and removes the large shoots.

00:03:58 Foliage removal is complete.

00:04:36 Trimming the second tree, keeping it a bit longer than the first.

00:05:10 Third tree...all of these are in pond baskets, which works for the greenhouse. Eric discusses the root system and repotting needs.

00:06:07 Eric cuts the fourth tree [too] aggressively...cue evil laugh.

00:07:20 Fifth and last tree has an interesting structure. Eric details Daisaku's instructions.

00:08:20 Eric uses the branches he cut for propagation.

00:09:42 The standard rooting hormone Eric uses for conifers is Hormex Rooting Powder #8.

00:10:17 A suggestion for propagating without a greenhouse.

Did Eric cut off too much foliage from these Sekka Hinoki? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. Thank you for watching! Please subscribe to our channel.
