In this video I show you the benefits of using a telephoto lens for sunset photography. A great sunset depends on getting the right type and amount of cloud. When that doesn’t happen then the sunset is often pretty dull.

However, usually on the horizon, particularly around where the sun has set or near to it, there is some colour. So why use a telephoto lens? Well, we can use it to zoom up close to the horizon and isolate the colourful area of the scene, assuming you can find a decent composition.

Here I use a 100-400mm Canon zoom lens to show you how I go in close to the mountains and capture some nice shots of Mount Triglav in the Julian Alps, and Mount Krim.
