In this second part of our analysis, it is essential to remain firm in the arguments presented previously: Stranger Things as a series may have justified its existence through Seasons 1 to 3, which offered compelling storytelling, memorable characters, and a cultural impact that resonated worldwide. However, Seasons 4 and 5 — divided into Volumes 1, 2, and 3 — represent not only a creative decline but, frankly, an insult to the audience’s intelligence and expectations.

The Duffer Brothers, Matt and Ross Duffer, appear to have lost the narrative vision that once defined their work. Their approach to Seasons 4 and 5 feels almost as if they resent their own creation, dismantling the emotional weight and narrative coherence that earlier seasons carefully built. Instead of honoring the legacy of the series, they deliver storylines that are bloated, unfocused, and centered on characters who add no value to the overarching plot. The result is a season that feels like a betrayal of the very foundation that made Stranger Things iconic.

The most glaring issue is the imbalance between spectacle and substance. While Volume 3 is marketed as an “epic finale” — complete with a final boss battle against Vecna staged with proportions reminiscent of Avengers: Endgame and even foreshadowing the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday — the majority of the episodes are painfully dull. Important characters, even those featured prominently in posters and promotional campaigns, are sidelined until the last five minutes of the climactic battle, only to be discarded immediately afterward. This narrative choice undermines audience investment and reduces beloved figures to mere props in a hollow spectacle.

Adding insult to injury, the technical execution is shockingly poor. The CGI in Seasons 4 and 5 is not only subpar but embarrassingly inferior when compared to recent productions from Disney and Fox — studios that themselves have been criticized for declining visual quality. To say that the CGI in Stranger Things is worse than the much-maligned effects of the latest Disney/Fox films is to highlight just how far the Duffer Brothers have allowed their series to fall. What should have been a showcase of cutting-edge visuals instead becomes a distraction, pulling viewers out of the story and exposing the lack of care in production.

In contrast, the earlier seasons (1 through 3) demonstrated why Stranger Things deserved its place in modern pop culture. They balanced nostalgia with innovation, character-driven arcs with supernatural intrigue, and emotional depth with thrilling spectacle. Seasons 4 and 5, however, abandon these strengths, replacing them with filler episodes, irrelevant subplots, and technical failures that erode the credibility of the series.
