How to remove a stripped lug nut?
This is the burning question, what is the best way to remove broken, frozen, rounded, rusted, seized, stripped lug nuts without causing any damage to the rim or wheel?
After working at automotive dealerships in the serviced department for 6 years I have witnessed many occasions that this has occurred. Technicians frustrated about the time wasted and money having to be spent on repairs and or replacement of the damaged items.
This is a no win situation for both the shop and the customer- neither want to pay for the time and repairs needed. What is the cause of these broken, frozen, rounded, rusted, seized, stripped lug nuts?
The Lug Ripper was drafted out; prototype was made and tested on many different styles of lug nuts. We started out with a reverse turning Lug Ripper bit thinking that this would be the smartest way to drill the lug nuts. During the drilling of the lug nuts may loosen and unscrew out. During the testing of the reverse threaded Lug Ripper, the drill came apart. The air drill by design has a center screw that keeps the front part to the back part. When used as a reverse drill, it unscrewed itself which rendered it useless. This is why the Lug Ripper is a forward drill bit.
The Lug Ripper consists of a tungsten steel shaft with carbide cutting bits that are welded onto the ends for the best way possible to remove broken, frozen, rounded, rusted, seized, stripped lug nuts.
The Lug Ripper tools are to be used with a ½” low rpm air drill that turns 600-700 rpms. You must provide a continuous flow of water during the entire time drilling out the lug nuts.
How to remove a stripped lug nut?
Use the Lug Ripper to remove the broken, frozen, rounded, rusted, seized, stripped lug nuts by removing the threads from the inside of the lug nut and the outside of the stud. Thus eliminate the only way for the lug nut to hold the rim on the vehicle.
