#DiamondLikeCarbon (DLC) is an amorphous nanocomposite carbon material (sp2 and sp3 bonds) that exhibits similar properties of natural diamond including low friction, high hardness, and high corrosion resistance. DLC is used throughout the photonics industry where an external optic requires both anti-reflective (AR) properties and the durability to withstand the harshest environments.

Most companies that need a DLC coating experience problems like pinholes, uniformity, stress and adhesion. In order to solve these recurring problems, we challenged prevalent industry thinking. We applied our decades of industry experience and designed a system that coats in an upward direction and features a circular geometry unlike typical industry box coaters.

In addition, we chose a Plasma-Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PE-CVD) technique. By utilizing PE-CVD and going against conventional industry thinking, we were able to accomplish a DLC coating with virtually zero pinholes, exceptional uniformity, low coating stress and excellent adhesion. These design innovation and improvements have enabled us to successfully coat the following infrared (IR) substrates:

-Germanium (Ge)
-Silicon (Si)
-Zinc Selenide (ZnSe)
-Zinc Sulfide (ZnS)
-Chalcogenides

When it comes to testing our product, we don't skip out on any steps. Each coating's level of quality is of the highest priority and we will do all of the following (In House) and more to ensure it will not fail:
