Typical Type Rating Program:

Phase 1 Virtual Systems Ground School- Accomplished Prior to Arrival

Phase 2 Procedures-based Ground Training & Evaluation (9 days)

Phase 3 Simulator Training & Evaluation (10 days) Minimum Maneuvers to be validated:
1. Preflight, Taxi, and Takeoff.
2. Engine failure at or after V1
3. Engine out approach- hand flown inside FAF
4. Non-ILS- VOR, LOC or RNAV
5. CAT III 6.
Missed Approach
7. Abort
8. Ground Evacuation
9. Abnormal Systems event and optional events such as TCAS Avoidance, Windshear, Steep Turns, Holding, Terrain Escape Maneuver etc.
10. LOFT- Typical Leg to evaluate normal procedures with a minor malfunction or weather event.

Phase 4 Operating Experience (OE) •
Check Airman flies with you for at least 25-50 hours to line qualify the pilot for the aircraft and appropriate divisions ie. North Atlantic, Mountainous terrain, South America, Pacific, Hawaii etc.

I am a 1958 vintage pilot with over 20,000 flight hours. I currently reside in Connecticut. I am a 1980 US Air Force Academy graduate and a seven-year Air Force instructor pilot. I have flown for a major US Airline since 1987 and I retire in September of 2023. I have been type-rated in the MD-80, B-737, B-757, B-767, B-777, A-300-600 and the MD-11. I am currently a 777 Captain based at JFK.
I have traveled the world and I have come to the conclusion that there is no place like home. It's been a great ride. I am very new to the MSFS and P3D world and I love it. Please feel welcome to offer any advice that you deem helpful.
