Batman Adam West Was a "Sexual Vampire"

Before Ben Affleck, Christian Bale, and Michael Keaton, there was Adam West. Adam West became famous for portraying Batman on the 1966 television program of the same name, which helped pave the way for the modern comic book film. While modern comic book actors might take their roles a little bit more seriously than Adam did on that seminal program, they likely aren’t having near as much sex when the cameras aren’t rolling. Given that Batman rose to popularity during the free love movement of the 1960s, Adam was able to use his success as the titular character to his advantage with an endless supply of Batman groupies.

At the time that he was hired to portray the character of Batman, Adam was 37 years old. The actor had been married and divorced twice, and was hired as the comic book superhero after someone saw him portraying a James Bond caricature in a Nesquik advert. Burt Ward was hired onto the program to portray Batman’s sidekick, Robin. Unlike his older costar, Burt was sexually inexperienced. While Burt was teaching Robin how to fight crime on the screen, he was mentoring him in another way when the cameras stopped.

Although Adam certainly had a lot of fun during the filming of the Batman program, the show only lasted for three seasons. Afterward, Adam found himself pigeonholed in the campy role. Eventually, Adam was a washed-up actor that had turned to alcohol in order to escape from the memory of his former life. However, the actor managed to turn much of this negativity around by the time of his death in 2017.
