George Best was a Northern Irish professional footballer who played as a winger for Manchester United and the Northern Ireland National Team. Best won the European Cup with Manchester United in 1968 and was even named the European Footballer of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year. The good playing skills and the difference George Best added to the football history made the Irish Football Association even describe him as "the greatest player to ever pull on the green shirt of Northern Ireland".

George Best was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland (   • Things to Do in Belfast - Belfast Tou...  ), and he started his football career in Manchester United Club at the age of 15. George's father, who was also believed to be good when it comes to playing football, used to be a member of The Orange Order whose headquarters is situated at Schomberg House along the Cregagh Road. Best once attended and took part in the annual celebrations and even the collarette which he wore is still displayed in the building until today.

The passion that one might have for something could be the main reason behind his success or failure in the other parts of life. When it comes to George Best, in the first secondary school that Best was part of, Rugby was the sport there and this affected his hatred towards it, until he moved to the new school, received better grades, and managed to play his favorite sport which is football.

George Best grew up in Cregagh Estate and that is where the next part of our trail took place. This was an important part in Best's life because he used to practice his football skills on the estate's playing fields and he got his father as a coach as well, even though the idea of his father watching him play would make him nervous and that is why Dickie never attended his matches. It was not just the help of his father, but even George's mother, Anne, would provide him and his friends with beverages while they were playing football; so the whole family used to give him a support to nurture his football skills.

Cregagh Road was one of the most important commercial streets back in the days of George Best and until this moment, it is still occupied by different family-owned businesses. One of the things that George used to do during his old days was attending the ambassador cinema which is now a department store, where he used to catch Saturday matinees with his friends and saw many classics of the day.

From the other things which are still standing until today and which used to take an important part of George's life is the Ravenhill Presbyterian Church which he used to attend on Sundays with his siblings and grandfather and they would then head to Donard street for lunch just after finishing the service at the church.

From the shops that is still found until these days and which George used to love back then is Desano's ice cream which among Newtownards Road and which is now referred to as W.J. Desano. Even when George Best was ill in London's Cromwell Hospital, his sister, Barbara, used to bring him ice cream from that place when she went over to visit.

Glentoran Football Club was one of those which Best used to support with his father or even his grandfather when he was a young boy - his grandfather used to live near the stadium as well which was considered one of the best things that George could receive.
