Описание к видео UI President Sally Mason Addresses Recent Controversy in Press Conference

IOWA CITY (CBS 2/ FOX 28)-- Amidst a sea of reporters and flashing cameras, University of Iowa president Sally Mason stayed cool despite the heat she's come under lately. "I probably have some of the same concerns you do," Mason said during a news conference Wednesday. UI's been the center of much controversy the past month. For starters, there's President Mason's job—one that hangs in limbo after the Iowa Board of Regents revealed that they didn't renew her contract which expired in July. "The contract issue to me is not one that I have much concern over," Mason said. But that was before the Peter Gray sex scandal in November—where the school rehired the athletic department's associate director of student services who had a history of sexual misconduct.  Something Mason says the university is still investigating but won't give specific details on. "Legal advice tells us that we would be putting the institution at risk," Mason said. "I am absolutely committed to not putting the institution at risk."Her decision to keep things quiet gained the attention of Governor Terry Branstad last week who criticized the president for a "lack of transparency."It's also caused uproar at the college of education where seven faculty members and the dean resigned after reports that performance reviews had been destroyed by higher ups."There was no destruction of documents," said Mason regarding the allegations of documents being destroyed.  Mason said the recent issues UI has come under scrutiny for are not out the ordinary for a large university. "These are not unusual situations by any stretch of the imagination," Mason said. "The fact that they get as much attention as they do that's you (media). That seems to be news you want to report, but it's not unusual at a large institution like a university." -----------------------------------------------------------------------
