'Raam Ras Meethho Ghano' by Amolak Ram

Описание к видео 'Raam Ras Meethho Ghano' by Amolak Ram

‘Burn down your house, then come walk with me!’ says Kabir in a famous and oft-quoted couplet. Imagine our delight when this metaphor began to unfold in intriguing ways in a full-fledged song in the voice of Amolak Ram.

Scorch the house to make a house arise, yogi
Protect it and it’s gone!
I saw a miraculous sight, yogi
A dead man eating up time

The promise of a new house, built on the ashes of the old one, is 'Raam ras' - a taste of your authentic self.

In 2011 we invited Mahesha Ram and his troupe to Bangalore for a 4-day ‘Learning with Kabir’ workshop designed as an immersive retreat for educators and artists. Mahesha ji and his mandali would draw the participants into the spirit of satsang in the early mornings and late evenings. The rest of the day, some of us sat with him and recorded new and old songs from his very deep repertoire.

One day Mahesha ji handed the tambura to his accompanist Amolak Ram, urging him to sing. This is what he sang, while Mahesha ji himself played the manjiras for him and swayed to the song with unconcealed joy. Amolak Ram ji belongs to Nagaraja village in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, and has been singing songs of Kabir, Rohal Fakir, Mirabai and other poets from a very young age. He learnt in the immersive satsang tradition of the villages, imbibing these songs from his brothers and uncles. Amolak Ram ji and can be contacted at +91 – 97995-92823 or 91-75681-97423.
