This is a comparison between two fine quality upright pianos that are similarly priced:

The Yamaha U3H is 8cm taller than the Feurich 122 but surprisingly the Feurich 122 has 2cm longer bass strings than the Yamaha U3 on average! There are many other design features on the Feurich that we believe make it a more desirable piano. Here are some of them in rough order of importance:

The touch is weighted more like a grand meaning that if you take your exams on a grand you won't be disadvantaged by the weight and feel as it is very similar.
The music desk is longer, thicker and made of wood which means that book holders can be fitted.
The Feurich has more leg room: 63.5cm compared with 62.5cm. This is important for tall people.
The action is wooden throughout with no plastic parts.
The pedal system and rods are wooden with no awkward guides and so the action slots in and out. without having to remove the rods.
The action bolts are metal and not plastic with washers as in the U3 which makes it awkward
The celeste lifts out without having to unscrew a wing nut.

The Feurich has traditional brass capstans, a one piece top which prevents accidental water spillage through the top onto the dampers and strings (something that quite frequently occurs).
The Feurich has a lid prop to allow extra volume as with a grand piano.

For these and other reasons, we can now firmly recommend the similarly priced Feurich 122 over the Yamaha U3H.
