La Jolla's tope shark population enjoy murky, low visibility waters. Despite this, they have large eyes for seeing in these silty conditions and a great sense of smell. There were so many tope sharks congregating this Summer season that they would run into each other and me because of the lack of room. In the area there were also leopard sharks, gray smoothhound sharks, banded guitarfish, sea turtles, and even a giant black sea bass hiding in the eelgrass.
