i find this song extremely hard to edit (sorry if it's a mess) but quite layered in the way it depicts a relationship, the pretending that accompanies it, the disillusionment, the superficiality too - and even the childishness (the line about the baby teeth makes me feral); and then the harsh impact with reality.
ava went into this eyes wide open, knowing full well who and what he was; and yet the outcome still blindsided her, pointing to the extent of her self-deception. and, without defending boyd more than needs be, she wasn't entirely blameless either, because that would mean depriving her of agency and .. no thanks

i always found them incredibly mismatched, and yet so utterly compelling and also --- fitting, perfectly connected to the core themes of the show.
how i ever thought they would come out of this unscathed is beyond me. it was inevitable.
