Six Nigerian Army Aviation officers has been recently inducted into the HAL’s Rotary Wing Academy today.
HAL & Nigerian Army has signed contract for imparting phase-I flying training back in April this year.
This is being speculated as big boost for Indian Defense as expectations are that Nigeria might buy the HAL LCH.
The speculations are quite genuine as well, however there are still no official confirmation on the purchase of HAL LCH.
These types of training are imprated to the pilots of other countries when they are intrested in purchasing the helicopter.
The training is being given to make pilots aware of the platform.
Nigeria at present is in dire need of attack helicopters. The northeastern part of Nigeria including Chad, Niger and Northern
cameroon is badly affected by radicalised terror group Boko Haram. Nigerian Military is operating more helicopters than fighter jets.
At present its operating Chinese two JF-17, eight Chengadu F-7, thirteen Alpha jets and six Embraer EMB 314. It operates 41 Russian Might
helicopters and 31 more other helicopters.
HAL has been in talks with many African countries for the sale of HAL LCH.
Talking about LCH, its one of the best attack helicopters in its category and definitely a formidable weapon in mountain warfare.
LCH is a 5.5-tonne class combat helicopter designed and developed by HAL.
Its features include sleek and narrow fuselage, tri-cycle crash worthy landing gear, crash worthy and self-sealing fuel tanks, armour protection, nuclear and low visibility features which makes the LCH
lethal, agile and survivable.
It has a maximum speed of 287KMPH with a range of 580KM & operational ceiling of 6500m which is best in class for any attack helicopters.
The LCH comes up with a glass cockpit, Integrated Avionics and Display System (IADS) which uses an array of multifunction displays along with target acquisition and designation (TADS) system.
The Helmet mounted sight (HMS) is a prominent feature of TADS which is used for targeting and triggering the rotorcraft's armaments.
The LCH is protected via an extensive electronic warfare suite provided by the Saab Group; this suite comprises various defensive elements include a radar warning receiver (RWR), laser warning receiver (LWR)
and a missile approach warning (MAW) system.
Talking about its weapon, It is equipped with a 20mm Turret gun and 70mm rockets. It has 4 hard points where it can carry two rounds of Mistral air-to-air missiles or 4 rounds of Helina ATGM.
The per unit cost of HAL LCH is 20.2 million dollars.
