Описание к видео How are you keeping your important documents safe?

The Better Business Bureau of North Alabama (BBBNA) wants you to keep you sensitive items safe.

During Athens Shred Day members of the community disposed of unused medication, documents, and old electronics.

"We've been doing Shred Days across North Alabama for 15 years, and its my favorite event that we do every year. I do four of them, so I have to enjoy it," BBBNA Vice President, Patricia Pruitt said. "Its also a way to keep hard drives and paper out of the hands of identity thieves."

The Athens Police Department was onsite collecting unused medication, or prescription drugs to ensure that they don't end up in the wrong hands.

Captain Trevor Harris explains, "Were just giving the community an opportunity to clean out their medicine cabinets and expired medication, and medication they don't need anymore, and do it in a safe way that keeps it out of the water supply and landfills."

Decatur Police Department holds a similar drug take back program for people in Limestone County.

"We have a drug drop off box available at the police department twenty four seven," Decatur Police representative Irene Cardenas Martinez said. "All you have to do is come by and drop off any unused or old prescriptions. Its a great way to safely dispose of these things so that they don't get into the wrong hands."

A student volunteer said she needed the service hours, but she was glad to help her community.

"We figured going to help people in our community would be a good thing to do, and it benefits us, for BETA hours and it also helps them," Student volunteer Bailey Griffin said.

This was the last Athens Shred Day of the year, but the BBBNA will host them in other locations, and return to Athens in 2022.
