Price: IDR 250k/room for 2 persons.
Verdict: Best location to hike for sunrise, but you need to accept the conditions (like a one-star hotel). My kids and I had no problem enduring the conditions, but just for one night...

Some very interesting stories to share:

Pak Suyon and his wife are nice owners who have been living there since birth. I gave him some suggestions and feedback about basic improvements like adding hangers for clothes, improving cleanliness, and providing a hotter shower (it wasn’t warm enough). I asked him why he doesn't renovate completely to turn his homestay into at least a 2-star or even 3-star hotel. He explained that it’s his plan too, but he doesn’t have the money yet and needs to earn and save enough first. However, it might be a long time before he can save for a major renovation. All the best to him!

Another very interesting story about the Bromo volcano: Pak Suyon said that when Bromo erupts (which happens every 4-5 years of interval 2020, 2015, 2010, 2004, 2000, 1995, 1980 ...), all the hotels are full instead of empty! People rush here to witness the eruption, and Cemoro Lawang town is actually safe (2-km radius) because it’s located on the higher cliff of the rim of the larger super crater known as Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. He recalled that the most stunning eruption, and the most beautiful of all, was in 1980 when Bromo expelled red-hot rock fragments or molten lava from its crater, especially at night. He can’t forget the scene; “just so beautiful,” he described the moment...... So come and support his dream!
