Living in the shadow of both Xros Heart and Blue Flare, the deck has been all but forgotten, despite multiple rounds of support. But what if I told you that one of the Seven Great Demon Lords could transform this bargain bin archetype into a successful engine? It turns out that Belphemon is the supreme commander the Bagra Army needed, and perhaps, deserved.

But how does Belphemon’s new appointment to the Bagra brass stack up against his usual build? And can Bagra Army fill the scatter mode shaped gap left in this top tier purple deck by the latest ban list?

Bagra Army is a save and digixros deck with a unique spin on control. Bagra Army uses its digixros sources to steal memory from the opponent on their turn and floodgate their play. Bagra Army can also force digixros its smaller pieces into a number of interesting, if somewhat underwhelming generals. With access to one of the more unique forms of removal, tucking one Digimon into another’s stack, Bagra Army should have been a popular pick. However, Bagra Army falls short, earning a second glance every now and then only because of its excellent tamer, Yuu Amano.

Belphemon is a powerful deck coming out of BT13. Belphemon surprised players in the ENG sphere by topping multiple regionals and even overcoming what was thought to be an unwindable matchup in MirageGaogamon. Belphemon takes advantage of the Gizmon engine and its tamer Akihiro Kurata to fill the trash, spawn multiple bodies, and setup Belphemon Rage Mode for a terrifying awakening. With the recent limiting of Eyesmon Scatter Mode, Belphemon’s tier one status might be in question, and it couldn’t hurt to start looking at other engines. Can Belphemon and Bagra Army come together to become the next big purple success story?
