From busking on the streets of Melbourne, to taking centre stage at the Sydney Opera House, Gunaikurnai gum leaf performer Uncle Herb Patten, originally from Newmerella, has had a remarkable musical career.

As he approaches his 80th birthday, Uncle Herb’s next ambition is to travel to China to record and perform at the popular 'leaf flute' festival. He shared his life story and tips on mastering the art of playing the gumleaf, in this story produced by ABC Gippsland’s Jedda Costa and Rachael Lucas.
