STORYLINE:

The Colombian police clashed with some 350 fighters of one of Colombia's largest guerrilla groups, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) authorities said on Friday.

The battle took place for three hours in Tambo, a small township south of Cauca province, when the police were doing operatives to get back two vehicles that had been stolen.

The guerrillas had been holding the vehicles for ransom.

No injures or dead were reported.

Columbian police also found a guerrilla camp with a capacity for 150 guerrillas.

The nation's four-decade civil war pits two leftist rebel groups against right-wing militias and government forces, killing about 3,000 people each year.
