School Stabbing Incident Fuels Communal Tension in Rajasthan's Udaipur | The Quint

Communal tension erupted in Udaipur's Madhuban area on 16 August, 2024 after a Class 10 student was stabbed by his classmate at a government school. As the situation worsened in the evening, markets in areas such as Bapu Bazar, Hathipole, Ghanta Ghar, and Chetak Circle were shut down. The district administration imposed prohibitory orders, and suspended internet services for the next 24 hours. Although the victim is now stable in a hospital ICU, false rumors of his death led to widespread arson and vandalism across the city, with several vehicles set ablaze. To prevent further violence, Section 144 was enforced in Udaipur, and authorities are now conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. The accused student and his father have been arrested.
