Описание к видео Body Sovereignty & Fat Liberation: Navigating EDs, Healthcare & the Weight of Colonialism | WSAW2024

What does it mean to be sovereign in a body that has been both historically and ongoingly stigmatized? In this presentation, Shilo explores the profound connection between body autonomy and body sovereignty, particularly through an Indigenous, anti-colonial lens. By sharing their experiences navigating eating disorder treatment as a fat person, working with healthcare providers, and using Vyvanse, Shilo will examine the many barriers faced in seeking compassionate, competent care. This presentation will challenge participants to rethink the body and healthcare in the broader context of colonialism, offering insights on patient advocacy, survivance, and the ongoing fight for both bodily and cultural reclamation.
