DR-1 Triplane RC Build & Fly - Guillows kit 204

Last year I built the Guillows DR-1 balsa model kit and had fun flying it with my brother and getting slomo footage of it too.

The electronics came from an older UMX Pitts from Eflite. It is a standard 2-cell brushless setup with linear servos.
I made a servo tray and motor mount to support the electronics and carbon rods with steel wire ends connect the servos to the control surfaces.

I covered it with the included red tissue. I used glue stick to apply it, water mist to shrink it and then Tamiya spray clear coat in order to seal it. I used the included decals, and painted the plastics with Aluminum color.
The engine detail was 3D printed on an Ender-3 and painted black with silver weathering.

My initial setup for these flights was a bit too tail heavy, and on this gusty day I found takeoffs easy but landings difficult. regardless, I made a handful of successful flights with it and it's still in 1 piece.

I think it ended up at 130g or 4.6oz, and may fly better with some expo on the aileron channel.

If I revisit it I will add a small amount of nose weight, the missing cabane rigging/cables, machine gun, and a pilot with scarf 😎

the music is a silly MIDI rendition of 'Snoopy Vs. The Red Baron' by 'The Royal Guardsmen'
