Southern Crescent 1978 to 2011

Описание к видео Southern Crescent 1978 to 2011

See how the "Crescent" has evolved over a 33-year time period with views from 1978 and 2011. The most obvious change is Amtrak taking over operation from the Southern Railway in 1979 and newer equipment. Gone are the smoky quartet of green E8s - replaced by a pair of Amtrak AMD103s. However, there is still a dining car, sleepers, coaches, and even a utilitarian lounge car (although not quite up to the standard of the former dome parlor car) from which to enjoy the scenery of the same route. The 1978 train carried a thru sleeper from New York/Washington to Los Angeles which could be occupied during the over-night layover in New Orleans before departing on the Sunset Limited for the west. This program concludes with the departure and scenes aboard the Sunset Limited which features ex-California Zephyr dome observation "Silver Horizon."
